‘It was crazy!’ – Chelsea questioned for leaving out £38m machine
El Hadji Malick Diouf has highlighted the positive influence of Axel Disasi since his move to West Ham. He expressed surprise that the defender hadn’t been given consistent first-team opportunities at Chelsea.
Disasi joined Chelsea in 2023 after a high-profile £38m transfer from Monaco, carrying significant expectations. However, his mixed performance during the 2024/25 campaign led to a loan spell at Aston Villa midway through the season.
After returning to Chelsea, Disasi found himself sidelined from the squad and missed all first-half fixtures before securing a loan move to West Ham last month. The France international has since stepped into the spotlight with Nuno Espirito Santo’s defense, recording just one loss in his initial six league matches.
“The guy is not a small player! It was crazy he stayed for so long without playing, but when he came here, he showed he’s a machine!”
Diouf, West Ham’s left-back, shared his thoughts with the club’s official website. The former Monaco and Reims defender still has three-and-a-half years left on his Chelsea contract, with the club’s decision to loan him potentially influenced by their relegation battle.
West Ham’s recent four league wins have placed them level on points with Nottingham Forest, sparking renewed optimism about their Premier League survival. A potential victory over Manchester City in their upcoming FA Cup quarter-final clash could push them to 15th place in the standings.
Espirito Santo, after his team’s win against Fulham, emphasized the squad’s determination to maintain their Premier League status. “We did a good game in a tough stadium against a strong team, with a top manager and quality players,” he said. “It’s a special night for us.”
“We don’t measure belief, we always have it. What we need is improvement,” Espirito Santo added. “Today was a big day, but the situation hasn’t changed. Nothing has changed. It required more from all of us.”
