A 22-year-old man from Solihull has received a five-year prison sentence after being convicted of wounding his girlfriend. Jordan Herring, who previously faced charges of coercive and controlling behavior toward the same woman, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court. The incident occurred in November 2022 when the 18-year-old victim, Bobbie Goodman, fell from the fourth-floor flat of Herring’s mother at Merton House in Chelmsley Wood. She sustained serious injuries, including a collapsed lung and fractures to her pelvis, spine, and ribs, requiring an air ambulance to transport her to hospital.
Victim’s Impact
Goodman described the experience as “very dehumanising” in an interview with the BBC. She spent a month in hospital and additional time relying on a wheelchair. “I couldn’t move, couldn’t walk, couldn’t wash myself. I really thought I might never walk again,” she recounted. The teenager expressed deep resentment toward Herring, stating, “He’s ruined my life in so many ways. He’s made me not want to trust another man ever again. But I hope someday, I will.”
Emergency Response and Mother’s Testimony
On the night of the fall, Herring’s mother made a frantic 999 call to alert emergency services. Kerrie-Anne Grogan told the police: “I couldn’t call the ambulance… I should’ve done it ages ago but he’s my son. I’m scared he’s gonna get a knife and kill her.” The court was informed that services were not summoned until more than an hour after the attack.
Defense and Charges
During the trial, Herring admitted the relationship was “toxic” and claimed the argument that led to the incident was about cheating. He was sentenced for both wounding and coercive and controlling behavior. Officers praised Goodman for her courage in sharing her ordeal, emphasizing their ongoing support for her recovery.
