Man arrested after baby girl dies from dog bite
Man Arrested Following Infant’s Fatal Dog Bite
Cleveland Police have detained a 45-year-old man after a three-month-old girl succumbed to injuries from a suspected dog attack in Redcar. The incident occurred on Thursday, with officers responding to an address on Hardale Grove, Dormanstown, shortly after 1:30 PM BST. Armed personnel were dispatched due to concerns for the child’s safety, and they reportedly euthanized two dogs—one found on the street and another at the property.
The man was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to act dangerously out of control, which resulted in fatal injuries. He has since been released on conditional bail. Authorities confirmed that the infant’s death was attributed to a dog bite, though the exact circumstances are under investigation. A 31-year-old woman was also bitten during the event and received medical attention at a hospital.
“Our thoughts remain with the child’s family during this tragic and distressing event,” said Ch Supt Rachel Stockdale, head of local policing. “I would like to emphasize the importance of respecting their privacy during this challenging period.” The force is maintaining a presence at the location as the inquiry continues.
Both canines were examined by a specialist officer, who stated they were not classified as banned breeds. Cleveland Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with footage of the incident to share details. The case highlights ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and accountability in pet-related incidents.
