Horsey further observed that since the coup, Min Aung Hlaing has appeared committed to maintaining Suu Kyi’s isolation as part of his strategy to neutralize her influence as a political force. He noted that permitting diplomatic access might, in the president’s view, undermine this objective and generate pressure from other international actors seeking similar access.

However, her son maintained that this announcement failed to adequately alleviate concerns about her condition or definitively confirm her status.
