Manhunt for Killer in Mississippi Triple Homicide Sparks Community Outcry
Manhunt underway in Mississippi for killer – A violent triple homicide has gripped the city of Jackson, Mississippi, as authorities continue their search for the suspect responsible for the deaths of a 2-year-old child and his mother and aunt. The incident, which occurred over the weekend, has left residents shaken and officials scrambling to piece together the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The victims, identified by Hinds County Coroner Jeramiah Howard, were Keyana Weathersby, 25; her son Camari Givens, 2; and her sister Erica Weathersby, 30. Earlier reports had mistakenly listed the mother as 26 years old, but that detail has since been corrected.
Demarco Bailey, the victims’ brother, shared his grief with CNN affiliate WAPT, highlighting the personal connection between the slain individuals. “My sisters and nephew were known for their compassion and dedication,” Bailey said. “They were raising this child together, and now he’s gone. He’s only two and a half years old. How could someone do this?” The emotional toll of the crime was evident even in the early response. “Every first responder, from the fire department to the police, was deeply affected by the brutality of the scene,” Howard recounted, adding that the crime scene was among the most harrowing he has encountered in a decade of combined experience as a coroner and deputy coroner.
“This is a heinous crime,” said Jackson Police Chief RaShall Brackney at a Sunday morning news conference. “The person responsible is an absolute coward, and they are the vilest of human beings.”
The incident began on Saturday when a 911 call reported an aggravated assault at a residence in a quiet residential neighborhood, approximately 10 miles northwest of downtown Jackson. Upon arrival, officials found a devastating scene: three bodies, all bearing multiple gunshot wounds, lying together in the home. “The sight was horrifying,” Brackney described, underscoring the severity of the crime. As of Monday afternoon, no suspects had been formally identified, though detectives are actively pursuing leads.
A key clue in the investigation is a red 2020 Mitsubishi Mirage, which belongs to one of the victims and was discovered abandoned in North Jackson on Sunday night. The vehicle is now being examined by investigators for potential evidence, as detailed in a Facebook post from the police department. “This car may hold critical information about the events that unfolded,” the post noted, emphasizing the importance of the lead in solving the case.
Mayor John Horhn addressed the growing concern over gun violence in Jackson, stating that the city has experienced a sharp increase in fatal shootings this year. “We are seeing a troubling trend of gun-related violence, senseless loss of life, and tragic events like this,” he said in a Sunday statement. “To address this, we will be allocating additional resources to support the community, working alongside law enforcement and public safety teams.” Horhn also outlined plans to collaborate with a range of stakeholders, including community leaders, violence prevention experts, and mental health professionals, to develop a comprehensive strategy for reducing gun-related deaths.
According to data compiled by CNN affiliate WLBT, Jackson’s police department has reported 41 homicides this year, with 38 of them attributed to shootings. The latest deaths bring the city’s total to 39th, 40th, and 41st homicides of 2026. The victims’ family has become a focal point for the community, with their shared grief echoing across local news outlets. “We are not just mourning three lives,” Bailey added. “We are mourning the future of a young child who had so much to look forward to.”
As the investigation unfolds, officials are emphasizing the need for public cooperation. “Residents are encouraged to come forward with any information that might help us identify the perpetrator,” a police spokesperson stated in a Sunday news release. “Every detail matters, especially in cases as shocking as this one.” The coroner’s office is also working closely with detectives to analyze the crime scene and determine the sequence of events leading to the triple homicide.
The tragedy has reignited discussions about the root causes of violence in Jackson, a city already grappling with high crime rates. “This case is a stark reminder of how quickly lives can be taken,” Howard reflected. “It’s a call to action for us to address the factors that contribute to such violent acts.” With the manhunt ongoing, the community remains united in its search for justice, hoping to uncover the motive behind the brutal killings.
As the days pass, the weight of the loss grows heavier, particularly for those who knew the victims personally. “My sisters were pillars of strength in our family,” Bailey said. “Their absence leaves a void that will be hard to fill.” The emotional impact of the crime has not only affected the immediate family but has also stirred a sense of collective sorrow among residents, prompting renewed efforts to combat gun violence in the region.
