The Pentagon’s subsequent declaration confirmed that both American personnel were killed “during an enemy attack” while performing their duties at the Jordanian installation. Additional American military personnel sustained various injuries during the incident, with four requiring medical evacuation to a local hospital in Jordan. Officials also announced that unidentified remains had been discovered in Jordan after one service member had previously been categorized as missing in action.
The cumulative toll of American military deaths now stands at seventeen personnel who have fallen during the nearly five-month conflict. On March 1, six Army Reserve soldiers were killed when a direct Iranian strike hit a temporary operations center located at Kuwait’s Shuaiba port. Within days of that incident, an Army sergeant died after receiving severe injuries during a separate attack in Saudi Arabia. Then on March 12, six additional service members perished when a US Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker refueling aircraft crashed in western Iraq, although investigators determined the accident was not caused by either hostile or friendly fire.
A recent period of reduced hostilities has now transitioned into what observers describe as an all-out war over the past seven days. American forces have been systematically targeting Iranian infrastructure including railways, road networks, and tunnel systems.
