Among the most visible impacts was a massive fire at a Wildberries warehouse in Koledino, Moscow Oblast, captured in geolocated footage showing the structure engulfed in flames. The facility, described by the Ukrainian military as spanning 250,000 square meters, belongs to Russia’s largest e-commerce platform — often compared to Amazon in scale and domestic reach. Vorobiev confirmed no injuries at that specific site.

Wildberries has become a recurring target over recent months. Ukrainian forces claim they have struck seven of the company’s ten largest logistics hubs. Kyiv’s rationale, as articulated by its military, is that the firm handles supply chains feeding the Russian armed forces. The company has responded to the sustained pressure by announcing plans to construct new warehousing capacity in neighboring Kazakhstan, a move that hints at how wartime attrition is reshaping Russian commercial geography.

Wider Russian Regions Hit

Beyond Moscow, drones were intercepted across southern and western Russia. In the Rostov region, five people were killed, the regional governor confirmed. The Ukrainian military identified the target there as a defense-industrial complex enterprise producing solid rocket propellant for various Russian weapons systems — a strike aimed at degrading Russia’s ability to sustain its own munitions output.

Near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk, maritime risk-management firm Marisks reported that a Greek oil tanker moored at a buoy was struck twice. The company assessed Ukraine as the likely responsible party, though details on the weapon type, extent of hull damage, crew condition, and cargo status had not been confirmed at the time of reporting.

Kyiv and Central Ukraine Absorb Russian Retaliation

While Ukraine’s drones penetrated deep into Russian territory, Moscow answered with its own overnight barrage of missiles and drones aimed at the Ukrainian capital and central regions. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported six people wounded in early Sunday strikes on Kyiv, including a hit near a book market in the city center.

Ballistic missiles reached further south. Kryvyi Rih, a major industrial city in central Ukraine, was struck, killing two residents. ArcelorMittal, which operates a steel plant there, reported thirteen employees injured and one fatality at the facility, with rescue and search operations still underway. In Sumy, in northern Ukraine, another person was killed.

Notably, Ukraine’s Air Force stated it failed to intercept any of the ballistic missiles fired overnight — a reminder of the persistent shortage of interceptor missiles that has constrained Kyiv’s air-defense posture throughout the war. Zelensky disclosed that Russia had launched more than 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles at Ukraine over the preceding week.

“European interceptors cannot simply be allowed to sit in storage. Lives need to be protected. Russia must be stopped,” Zelensky said.

A Drone Breaches Romanian Airspace

In a separate incident on the same day, an unidentified drone was shot down over Romanian airspace. Bucharest’s Defense Ministry said a Spanish F-18 pilot flying a NATO air-policing mission intercepted the craft after Romanian radars tracked it entering from neighboring Moldova. Fragments reportedly fell in an uninhabited stretch between two villages. It was the fourth drone downed over Romania this year. In July, Romanian F-16 pilots shot down three Russian drones breaching national airspace for the first time — a milestone after dozens of such incursions during more than four years of Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.

What the Escalation Signals

The overnight exchange illustrates a widening pattern: Ukraine is stretching its reach into Russia’s economic hinterland, treating warehouses, propellant plants, and port-adjacent shipping as legitimate targets, while Russia continues to pound Ukrainian cities with long-range missiles and glide bombs. The mutual targeting of civilian-adjacent infrastructure — e-commerce logistics on one side, book markets and steelworks on the other — raises the stakes for both populations and complicates any near-term diplomatic calculus. For European governments, Zelensky’s pointed remark about interceptors sitting idle in storage lands with particular force as the war enters its fifth year and the question of sustained air-defense support grows more urgent.
