What the Letters Say

In the same document, Harp writes of her desire to maintain an unbroken emotional connection:

“I want things to always be right between us.”

A second letter, also from 2023, carries an even more deferential register. Harp apologizes for a perceived lapse in attention and frames the president as her singular source of meaning:

“I never want to bring you anything but joy. I’m sorry I lost my focus. You are all that matters to me. I don’t want to ever let you down. Thank you for being my Guardian and Protector in this Life.”

Another passage looks backward to the period when Harp hosted a show on One America News Network, a conservative cable outlet. She recalls informal phone calls with Trump during that era and expresses a wish to restore that informal dynamic:

“I miss the days when you used to call, during my Talkshow days, and we’d talk about everything and nothing. I want to get back to that synergy. We shouldn’t have to talk about work all the time!!”

The letter also contains a request for candor, however harsh:

“And please, when I fail, will you tell me? You have the absolute right to cuss me out, if need be, when I deserve it, because no one knows or cares about me more.”

The authenticity of the letters has not been independently verified. The Daily Beast stated that writer Michael Wolff obtained the documents while researching a book on Trump’s 2024 campaign.

White House spokesperson Davis Ingle issued a statement defending Harp, describing her as “one of the most loyal and hardest working aides on President Trump’s team.” Yet privately, officials have conceded that the wave of public criticism has had the unintended consequence of amplifying attention on Harp’s relationship with the president — precisely the outcome the administration would prefer to avoid.

The optics compound the problem. On Friday, Harp was photographed boarding Marine One alongside other aides as the president departed the White House for South Carolina. Her presence on that trip is routine; she accompanies the president to nearly every engagement. Harp’s physical proximity to Trump goes beyond what past presidential aides have occupied. Unlike former personal secretary Madeleine Westerhout, who managed information flow during Trump’s first term from outside the Oval Office, Harp works from inside it.
