A critical high-voltage cable connecting Finland and Sweden experienced an unexpected failure early Tuesday, causing a brief disruption before services were resumed. The incident impacted Fenno-Skan 2, a 800-megawatt submarine cable vital for energy exchange between the Nordic nations.

Fingrid, Finland’s national grid operator, confirmed the outage stemmed from a substation malfunction, though the undersea cable itself showed no visible damage. Inspections of the affected equipment were completed, and full operations were restored by midday.

A spokesperson for Fingrid stated that the fault originated at a substation, with the underwater infrastructure remaining intact.
