Four teens arrested over fatal stabbing of boy, 16

A 16-year-old boy’s death has prompted the arrest of four teenagers in Peterborough. The incident occurred in Riseholme, close to the Ortongate Shopping Centre, when police received a call just before 19:00 BST on Sunday regarding a teenager being attacked. The victim was taken to hospital but succumbed to his injuries. Cambridgeshire Police confirmed the arrests, emphasizing that the stabbing was not a random act.

School Closure and Arrests

St John’s Church School in Peterborough closed temporarily due to a “serious incident” nearby. An email shared with the BBC noted that “police are currently processing a site in close proximity to the school,” leading to the decision to shut down. Two individuals, a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man, both from Peterborough, were charged with murder. Two additional teenagers, aged 16 and 17, are suspected of aiding the offender. The 16-year-old girl, also from March, faces charges of possessing a weapon.

Police Presence and Updates

A large police force was visible near the Ortongate Shopping Centre on Sunday night, with a cordoned area still in place on Monday. The shopping centre remains open, though its rear car park is closed. The school stated it will “continue to monitor the situation” and provide updates on when it will reopen. Residents have left flowers by the cordon, symbolizing their support for the community.

“This is a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a young man, and we are in contact with his family and keeping them updated,” said Det Ch Insp Richard Stott of the Beds, Cambs and Herts Major Crime Unit. “While we understand the death will be concerning for local people, we do not believe this was a random attack. There will be a significant police presence in the area over coming days.”

Authorities have asked anyone with information or home CCTV footage to contact the police. The case continues to be investigated, with updates expected as the inquiry progresses.
