Thinking of signing up to Metro’s Lifeline challenge? Here’s everything you need to know
About the Challenge
This summer, picture yourself traversing the scenic Cotswold hills, feeling the breeze in your hair and sunlight on your skin, while knowing each stride contributes to aiding individuals affected by dementia.
Event Overview
For those new to our Lifeline initiative, there may be several questions on your mind. That’s why we’ve compiled key details to ensure you’re well-equipped, encouraged, and supported from the moment you join our fundraising event in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society.
Participation Details
The 2026 Lifeline challenge will occur on June 13, with the route beginning at the Royal Agricultural University in Circencester. Team Lifeline is a diverse group comprising Metro staff, Alzheimer’s Society volunteers, and readers like you. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just starting out, all ages and fitness levels are welcome, and you can participate alone or with companions.
With over 2000 participants expected, the event will be a vibrant gathering of like-minded individuals. Even if you register solo, you’ll find fellow walkers nearby to share tips and keep you energized throughout the journey.
Distance Options
Participants can choose between three trekking distances: 25km, 50km, or 100km (which may be completed in one day or split over two). Each option has a corresponding fundraising goal—£150 for 25km, £225 for 50km, and £330 for 100km. While the registration fee is £15 for all distances, the higher fundraising targets offer flexibility for those aiming to contribute more.
How to Prepare
Before joining, consider your fitness level and the time you can dedicate to training. Though the day of the event promises a thrilling test of endurance, consistent preparation ensures a smoother experience. The charity’s team has seen countless participants achieve their goals with dedication and effort.
At least 50% of your fundraising target should be met three weeks before the challenge, with the remaining amount due within four weeks of finishing. Metro’s JustGiving page serves as a centralized hub for donations, and you’ll receive a personalized link immediately after signing up.
Support Systems
Throughout the process, you’ll have access to regular updates from the charity and event organizers, Action Challenge. You’ll receive your start-time confirmation four weeks in advance and your e-ticket 10–14 days before the event. The sign-up page also features a FAQ section to address any queries.
To stay connected and share experiences, join our dedicated Facebook group where participants exchange training ideas, post practice walk photos, and offer encouragement. As the event approaches, you’ll be invited to a WhatsApp group for real-time updates on safety and daily plans.
